In the NewsBanish DoubtIn letting go of doubt, we open ourselves up to all possibilities. Recently I had a conversation with a realtor I know, which perfectly illustrates this. David had made arrangements to show his client a townhouse in a new development. As they approached the complex, a man from the parking lot asked David if he was a real estate agent? He chuckled to himself, and told the man yes he was. Next, the gentleman asked if he could tag along with David to see the townhouse, too. He checked if that was okay with his lady client, and it was. In his mind, David thought it was kind of a strange thing, this had never happened before, but he figured it couldn't hurt, and so he was open to it. After all three toured the place, the man said thanks and goodbye. David didn't think anything more about the man. Until one day a week later, he got a call. Not from his client, but from the man. He asked David if he would be his agent! He wanted to make an offer on a different unit, but in the same complex as he had been in with David and his client. Within a day the deal was made -- David had a sale ! Now what would have happened if David immediately had jumped to the conclusion that it was not a good idea to allow the man to tag along? What if he would turn out to be a problem, what if... what if... what if he doubted anything good would come from it? In fact, as the story goes, David remained open, and did not jump at listening to 'The Doubter" in his head. Do you ever hear "The Doubter"? you know, the voice that begins every line with "but what if it doesn't work out?, or "something bad could happen" or... "what if it turns out like last time"... When you let the doubting voice win, you lose. It's that simple. Would you be willing to ask yourself "why not?" and stay open to all possibilities? In the case of my friend David, the possibility of gaining a totally new client, was exactly what happened for him.
