Lone Ranger? Who Me?
Centuries ago, Plato revealed the importance of purpose when he said,
"More will be accomplished, better, and with more ease, if every man does
what he is best fitted to do and nothing else."
Ok, the language is a little outdated, let's include all the gals ,too! How many
times have you had a long list of tasks looming in front of you, some of which,
may not be what you are best 'fitted' or suited to do?
However you fall into the trap of some invisible pressure to do it all anyway?
At all costs? I call this The Lone Ranger Mentality.
Let's explore this a little more.
Ask yourself these questions;
~How valuable is my time? Really think about the dollar value here.
~When I am faced with a number of items to tackle on the 'list' --- am I best
suited for all tasks?
~Does this irritate me?
~Can I hire the task out?
There may be times when you are the best one to give it a go, and times when you
are spinning your wheels only to become irritated.
Action Step:
For the next two weeks keep a pad of paper nearby and each time you find
yourself complaining about a job someone else could do, write it down! Whether
you are a homemaker or a CEO it doesn't matter- simply pay attention to the
things you no longer enjoy doing. The fact that a task irritates you, is a clue.
Just the simple act of having someone else take over the laundry duties or have
your car repaired, can free up a ton of energy, not to mention your time.
Summer students are always eager to make money...why not hire a student?
